Welcome to Artesia We want to welcome you to Artesia Public School District located in the enchanted land of southeastern New Mexico. We provide a comprehensive public education to students from preschool through the 12th grade in Artesia and its surrounding communities. We invite you to get to know us! Superintendent's Message January 29, 2021 Dear Bulldog Families, More than ten months ago, our students were suddenly removed from in-person learning and quickly ushered into the world of remote learning. While some of our students have been able to benefit from in-person learning this school year, most have not. I am extremely excited to announce that the board of education voted today in favor of students at all grade levels being able to return to school in a Hybrid model sta11ing Monday, February 8. Although we are still far from where we want to be, this is a good first step. I continue to be so thankful for families, students, and our staff for the tremendous job that is being done to keep meaningful education going, and I am looking forward to working through this transition with you. Below is some general information that we will supplement in the coming days with communication from district administrators and principals: All schools will have two cohorts-Group A (Last names A–L) and Group B (Last Names M–Z). Principals will ensure household members are in the same group regardless of last name. Group A will attend school on Monday and Tuesday. Group B will attend on Thursday and Friday. We will use Wednesdays for remote learning, deep cleaning of the schools, social and emotional learning, interventions, and teacher collaboration. On four-day weeks, we will use Wednesday for in-person learning to accommodate missing the Monday or Friday. There may be some variation of this schedule for students receiving special education services. School bell schedules, bus routes, stops, and times will return to normal. For those families who are not ready for their students to return to campus, virtual learning will continue to be an option. The details of the virtual learning are being considered based on feedback from the school board, staff, and community. Please see the attachment below for specific schedules for the weeks of February 8–12 and February 15–19. The CDC recently called for the return of students to the nation's classrooms as soon as possible saying significant evidence indicates in-person instruction can be carried out safely with precautions in place. They also cited the benefits of in-person schooling to meet educational, developmental, and emotional and mental health needs. Our safety precautions are in place, and we are anxious to help our students benefit from the in-person learning we will finally be able to provide. Our updated Protocols and Procedures and Instructional reentry plans are on our website . Please take time to review those plans and watch for more details early next week.
